Post-add-to-cart cross-sell
When a customer adds a product to the cart from the assistant, Dialog can follow up right away with a free-shipping progress bar and two product suggestions picked to close the gap. The customer has just said yes: it is the best moment to grow the order.
What your customers see
Section titled “What your customers see”Right after the add, the conversation shows one block:
- The added product, with a quantity stepper to add one more.
- A progress bar toward free shipping: “15 € away from free shipping”, then “Free shipping” once the threshold is reached.
- “Complete your cart”: two suggestions with an Add button. The one that gets the cart past the threshold carries a Free shipping badge.
- The cart total, with a link to the cart.
Every action in the block re-reads the cart, so the bar and the badges stay accurate as the customer adds products.
A few rules worth knowing:
- The block only appears after an add made from the assistant, never after an add from your product page.
- No threshold configured? The suggestions still show, only the progress bar is hidden.
- Something goes wrong (cart unreadable, server unreachable)? Nothing is shown and the add to cart works as usual. Customers never see an error.
- The block is not part of the conversation history: it disappears when the conversation is reloaded.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- The feature must be enabled on your store. See Availability.
- On Shopify, your free-shipping threshold should already live in your store settings: a shipping rate conditioned on the order amount, or an automatic “free shipping over X” discount. Dialog reads it from there.
Configure free shipping
Section titled “Configure free shipping”In your Dialog dashboard, open Assistant settings → Free shipping. This tab holds the thresholds the assistant shows to customers.
Shopify stores: import from Shopify
Section titled “Shopify stores: import from Shopify”On Shopify, your store configuration is the source of truth. Dialog does not ask you to type your threshold again: it reads it and keeps a copy.
- Open the Free shipping tab and click Import from Shopify.
- Your thresholds appear per market, with a Synced from Shopify badge and the time of the last sync.
- Below the table, a report lists what Dialog examined in your configuration and skipped (unconditional free shipping, promo codes, rates in other currencies), so you can check that the right threshold was picked.
What Dialog reads:
| Source in Shopify | Example |
|---|---|
| Shipping rates with a minimum order amount condition and a free price | “Free shipping over 60 €” in a shipping zone |
| Automatic discounts of the free-shipping type with a minimum purchase amount | “Free shipping on orders over 60 €” |
Two things to keep in mind:
- One threshold per market. If a zone has several free-shipping conditions, Dialog keeps the lowest amount, the one the customer actually reaches first.
- Shop currency. Thresholds are read in your shop currency. For customers paying in another currency, the assistant converts the amount with your store’s own exchange rate, so the bar matches what your checkout will apply.
Grant the new permissions
Section titled “Grant the new permissions”Reading shipping rates and discounts requires two Shopify permissions that older installs of the Dialog app do not have. If they are missing, the dashboard shows a banner: “To make the most of Dialog’s latest features, please grant new rights.”
- Click Grant access.
- Shopify opens the app authorization page: approve the requested permissions.
- Back in Dialog, open the Free shipping tab and click Sync now.
Enter your thresholds manually
Section titled “Enter your thresholds manually”Manual mode is for stores where Dialog cannot read the threshold: non-Shopify platforms, or a Shopify configuration the sync does not understand.
- In the Free shipping tab, click Enter my thresholds manually (or Edit an imported row: Dialog asks you to confirm leaving the Shopify sync).
- Fill in one row per threshold:
| Column | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Market | Country codes, such as FR, BE. Leave empty for All markets. |
| Currency | The currency the amount is expressed in. |
| Threshold | The order amount from which shipping is free. |
- Save each row. Add more rows with Add a market threshold.
Manual thresholds are matched strictly: a customer paying in a currency that has no row sees the suggestions without the progress bar. Add one row per currency your store sells in.
Availability
Section titled “Availability”This feature is enabled per store by the Dialog team. Without it, the Free shipping tab shows a preview of what your customers would get and a See plans button. To request it, contact us from your dashboard.
